Riga's tallest church with breath-taking views across the city, new and old (as seen in my previous blog). We are now going explore the interior of this UNESCO’s World Heritage site.

St Peter's was first mentioned in writing in 1209, so we are to assume it was built around then with some small parts still remaining today. In the 15th century, the church underwent some significant changes and expansion where it gain its Gothic appearance.

Apart of these changes gave the church its uniquely recognisable tower which was completed in the late 15th century. However the tower has had a unlucky past. In 1666 it collapsed, it has been struck my lightening several times, and was even burnt down during world war II along with the church.

In the 60's the tower was renovated and a metal structure was erected allowing the galleries to be used as the sightseeing platforms we see today.

I hope you have enjoyed my photo's!

Thanks, as always, for taking the time to read.
