Berliner Dome, Berlin Cathedral
The outer dome gallery (Domumgang) sits 50 metres above the ground, offering a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of Berlin’s historic and modern center.
Getting to the balcony requires a 270-step climb. There is no elevator access to the dome walkway. The journey is split into two halves: a wide, grand historic staircase for the first section, which transitions into a narrower, tighter spiral staircase for the final ascent to the outdoor platform.
Things you can see from the top: The Humboldt Forum: Looking directly south across the Lustgarten park, you get a bird's-eye view of the massive Berlin Palace replica, featuring its own grand dome. The TV Tower (Fernsehturm): Turning eastward, Berlin's tallest landmark towers over Alexanderplatz, contrasting sharp, 1960s socialist modernism against the cathedral's historic facade. Museum Island: You get a perfect aerial angle of the neighboring Altes Museum (with its iconic neoclassical columns). The Spree River: The balcony wraps entirely around the dome, providing a stunning look at the winding river and the tourist boats passing directly underneath.
